If the members of the San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team looked to their coach's performance the previous weekend for inspiration, it worked.

SBVC took the Inland Empire Athletic Conference championship Friday, just days after coach Jenny Sandoval won the Long Beach Half-Marathon, as the Wolverines had the top three finishers at Morley Field in San Diego.

Sara Jaquez blew away the field to take the top spot, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 4.8 seconds, finishing more than a minute before any other runner in the IEAC field.

Yoselin Canseco was the second across the line, finishing at 21:14.6, with teammate Ximena Martinez close behind at 21:20.6. Audrey Garcia finished fifth overall, stopping the clock at 21:39.6. And Britney Solis finished sixth at 22:12.1. 

SBVC now prepares for the Southern California Championships on Nov. 3.
