SBVC Tames Panthers in Home Finale

SBVC Tames Panthers in Home Finale

Coming off a long, emotional five-set victory over Mt. San Jacinto two nights before, the San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team needed to guard against a let down against Chaffey College in its regular season home finale.

Mission accomplished.

The Wolverines blitzed Chaffey for a 25-9 first set victory, then played a steady final two sets to complete the sweep, 25-15, 25-16.

SBVC had 12 kills per set in the victory - hitting 55 percent in the second set, and 33.3 percent for the entire game. Leading the attack was Manaia Mamea, who had 16 of the team's 36 kills. Sister Loleaulelei Mamea had 10 kills as well. Setters Annika Ferreras (17 assists) and Itzana Rojas (14 assists, two block assists) split time running the offense as the Wolverines moved to 17-6 on the season, the most wins in a season for the program since 2002, when the team finished 23-2.

The Wolverines close out the season at 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at College of the Desert. With a win, the Wolverines would clinch at least a share of the Inland Empire Athletic Conference championship - the first conference title since 2006.
