SBVC Quickly Dispatches Copper Mountain

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team didn't have long to promote breast cancer awareness in their Dig Pink Night on Wednesday.

SBVC swept away Copper Mountain in just 52 minutes, defeating the Fighting Cacti 25-12, 25-4, 25-13 in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference game.

After a sluggish start in the first set, the Wolverines took control midway through with Annika Ferreras and Jae Peterson each going on runs from the service line, as SBVC converted 11 of its 22 attacks in the set.

Serving first in the second set, Ferreras opened with seven straight points - six of which were not returned by Copper Mountain. Manaia Mamea was next on the service line, and the Wolverines went on a 10-point run to take control of the set, finishing it in 12 minutes.

The third set saw coach Robert Vansant empty his bench, as the Wolverines still converted 11 of their 23 attacks to close out the game.

SBVC ended the game credited with 26 aces - Mamea had seven, Ferreras six, and Peterson five. Loleaulelei Mamea led the attack, finishing with 12 kills in the game. Ferreras and Itzana Rojas each had 10 assists.
