SBVC Perseveres to Beat Victor Valley

Having opened Inland Empire Athletic Conference with two relatively easy wins against Cerro Coso and Copper Mountain, the San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team knew it would have its hands full with Victor Valley College on Wednesday night.

The Rams also came into the game having won their first two conference games, and had won three in a row and four of their last five.

And despite struggling at times, the Wolverines found a way to wear down Victor Valley, en route to a four-set victory over the Rams, winning 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21 to remain undefeated in conference and extend their winning streak to six games.

The Wolverines got a series of pick-me-ups throughout the match from their entire squad. Manaia Mamea led the way for SBVC with 19 kills and 14 digs, while sister Loleaulelei Mamea had 11 kills and 17 digs of her own. But it was the work of the entire team that helped SBVC get through. Libero Destiney Parker led the team with 27 digs on defense, while Allanah Bowen came off the bench with six kills and six digs, helping spark a pair of SBVC rallies. Emily Valencia and Desiray Santamaria both contributed from the service line, with five aces apiece.

SBVC now prepares for a matchup Friday against Mt. San Jacinto. That match will begin at 5 p.m. in the auxilary gym.
