SBVC Opens Conference With Sweep

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team won the first eight points and never looked back, as the Wolverines swept Cerro Coso College 25-6, 25-6, 25-10 Wednesday night in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Annika Ferreras was at the service line for the opening run, scoring two of her three aces in the game, as the Coyotes were snuffed out by a solo block by Loleaulelei Mamea during the run. It was Mamea who practically closed out the first set, running off eight-straight points - including six aces - to put the Wolverines at a 24-6 advantage before finishing the set on the next play.

Mamea ended the game with 13 kills on 17 attempts and eight aces. Her eight aces in a single game is tied for second all-time in school history. The school record is 10 aces in a game, set in 2001. SBVC ended the match with 19 total aces.

Manaia Mamea added nine kills, while Itzana Rojas had 20 assists.
