Runners Show Strong at PCAC Finals

Seven members of the San Bernardino Valley College track and field teams will be headed to the Southern California Regionals after their performances at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships last week at San Diego Mesa College.

Kaitlyn Honobach helped propel the women's team to a third place finish overall with her results in the hurdles. She won the conference title in the 100 meter hurdles, posting a season best of 18.20 seconds, then finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with another season best time of 1:20.88. Yoselin Canseco posted three top-four finishes. She finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, posting a State Meet B Standard of 12:52.92, and was also third in the 5,000 meters - her first 5K on the track - in a time of 21:30.49. Canseco then finished fourth in the 800 meters with a lifetime best time of 2:37.35.

On the men's side, Fercis Torres advanced to the regionals during the first day of competition, finishing fifth in the 10,000 meters of 33:56.70. Hurdler Chompol Kanyamasa had a solid showing, finishing second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:10.95, and fifth in the 110 hurdles at 17.88 seconds to advance to the regionals. Both Jahzeri Gill and John Mireles advanced with their finishes in the 800 meters, with Gill finishing fourth at 1:58.79 and Mireles stopping the clock sixth at 2:03.34.

The Southern California Regionals will begin May 5 at San Diego Mesa with preliminaries and finals for some events, with the final day of action set for May 12.
