SBVC Unable To Rally Past Chaffey

The San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team has had its share of ups and downs during the 2023-24 season. Saturday's Inland Empire Athletic Conference game against Chaffey College was no exception.

The Wolverines started slow, then had a rough second quarter in which they only scored eight points, but battled back in the second half, twice closing the defecit to one-point, only to have the Panthers pull away for a 64-59 victory.

A pair of SBVC players finished the game with double-doubles, and four players ended in double figure in points. But the Wolverines had a hard time containing Chaffey guard Breonna Martinez, who finshed with a game-high 25 points, and center Fatimah Sani, who had 14 points, most of which was in the paint.

Leading the Wolverines in scoring was Priscilla Najera, who came off the bench with 13 points - including making 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Marilynn Jacques finished with a double-double of 12 points with 10 assists - the fourth time this season she has finished with double-digit assists in a game. Ajayah Lively also posted a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while Lelani Battle finished with 10 points.

SBVC closes out the season with their final three games at home, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday against Victor Valley.
