Women's Basketball Leader Headed to Next Level

When a new coach takes over a program, they look for returning players to take a leadership role on the team to help make the transition that much easier.

For women’s basketball coach Julia Smith in her first season, she had Jourdan Walker.

Walker, out of Milor High School, took over that leadership role for the Wolverines in the 2022-23 season, averaging a team high 34.7 minutes per game for the squad. For the work, Walker has been rewarded with the chance to continue her collegiate career at the four-year level.

Walker will become part of the inaugural team at Stanton University, based in Garden Grove.

The Elks will be coached by former San Bernardino Valley coach John Hill, who coached at SBVC for the 1995-96 season. Stanton will play in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, with the hopes of one day competing in the NAIA as well.
