SBVC Women Hold Off Barstow for Victory

The San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team has been working through some tough times in the 2022-23 season, as injuries and off-court issues have made it hard on first-year coach Julia Smith to get her team to come together.

Wednesday night, the Wolverines found a way to come together, as they beat Barstow College 65-59 at SBVC.

The Wolverines offense got on track, opening up a 17-point lead in the third quarter, but then had to hold off the Vikings in the fourth. Barstow pulled back within three points with 4:13 remaining, but SBVC was able to hold off the charge and pull away at the end.

Sherri Martinez scored 20 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead the way for SBVC, while Dieynaba Sylla added 20 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the victory.

Sophomore captain Jourdan Walker had 12 points, while Milesha Boddie-Nolley had 12 assists.

Barstow's Ajayah Lively led all scorers with 38 points and 11 rebounds.
