SBVC Runners Post Top Five Finish at State

The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team qualified for Saturday's state championships with a fifth place finish at the Southern California regionals.

SBVC left Woodward Park in Fresno still in the top five, as Southern California teams swept the top five spots at the CCCAA State Championships.

The Wolverines' Vicente Quiroz was leading the field at the first mile marker of the 4-mile course, posting a split of 4 minutes, 57 seconds. Quiroz stayed near the front of the field through the second mile, running in fifth at the halfway point. He dropped off in the second half, finishing 23rd with a time of 21:06.6.

Elijah McBroom stopped the clock next, finishing 37th at 21:25.0. Jacob Mendiola was the third SBVC runner to cross the line, clocking in at 21:36.7 for 48th place. Christopher Valderrama wasn't that far behind, finishing 52nd with a time of 21:38.8. Kevin Nava finished the SBVC scoring five, finishing 80th at 22:03.0.

In a repeat of the Southern California Regionals, Mt. San Antonio finished on top, with San Diego Mesa finishing second, Bakersfield third, and Riverside City in fourth.
