SBVC Runners End Season at Regionals

The San Bernardino Valley College track and field teams had their seasons reach the finish line with their results from the Southern California Regionals, held over two weekends at San Diego Mesa College.

Several athletes posted personal bests at the meet, but were unable to advance to this weekend's state championships. Chompol Kanyamasa posted a PR in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing at 17.41 seconds, while Ayla Smallwood finished the 100 meters at 13.57 seconds.

Yoselin Canseco ran in last Friday's 3000 meter steeplechase, and was in position to advance to the state championships early on. But a bad landing at the water jump injured her ankle, causing her to fall to 11th place at 12:57.88, missing advancement to the state championships by one place. The previous weekend, she clocked a personal best in the 800 meters, finishing at 2:34.53.

The men's team had two competitors in the 800 meters at the meet, with Jahzeri Gill finishing seventh in his heat with a time of 1:59.32. John Mireles, who had been battling a heel injury finished his heat at 2:03.88.
