The San Bernardino Valley College track and field team took one of its longest trips of the 2023 season Saturday, as the team traveled to participate in the Bakersfield College Invitational. And the drive was worth the effort, as several athletes posted personal bests at the meet.

Leading the pack was Jahzeri Gill, who finished seventh overall in the 800 meters, posting a personal best time of 1 minute, 58.72 seconds. His teammates Arian Mayorga (2:11.52) and Fercis Torres (2:12.80) also improved their lifetime best times at the meet. 

Meanwhile, John Mireles finished eighth in the 1,500 meters, posting his own personal best of 4:16.98. Teammates Torres (4:24.37) and Roberto Lopez (4:33.68) posted personal bests in the 1,500 as well.

Sprinters DaQuarn Davis and Ayla Smallwood each hit personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters. Davis posted a time of 11.47 in the and 23.56 in the 200, while Smallwood stopped the clock at 13.76 (100) and 30.03 (200).

The team will be back in action Friday at Pasadena City College.
