SBVC Beats Victor Valley to Extend Winning Streak

The San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team picked up its fifth win in a row, handling Victor Valley College 3-1 on Tuesday inside SBVC Stadium.

The Wolverines took control of the game just before and just after the halftime break.

Tied at 1, the Wolverines took the lead in the 43rd minute, as they built up an attack up the left wing. David Politron sent a long ball across the goal where Andy Hernandez ran on to the ball and headed it in the upper corner of the right post to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead at the half.

And as the teams were getting their feet back at the start of the second half, Joshua Holmes sent a long ball down the field. Ernest Lomeli won a race to the ball between VVC defenders, and he was able to chip the ball around goalkeeper Raymond Jauregui. Lomeli got the loose ball and tucked it into the net for the 3-1 lead.

The Wolverines had to dodge some bullets in the first half. After taking a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute - Erick Ibarra converted a flicked pass from Ebrima Njie - the Rams put the pressure on. They tied the score in the 39th minute, as Andres Hernandez made cutting run to the near post on a corner kick, and he deflected the ball into the net.

But it was Holmes making the big plays for the Wolverines on defense to keep the game close. He cleared two shots off the line in the first half to keep the game close.

Antonio Bataz made four saves for the victory.
