SBVC Drops Citrus With All-Around Effort

The San Bernardino Valley College baseball team put together two big innings, and the pitching staff and defense came through to beat Citrus College 11-8 Tuesday afternoon.

Nathan Campos-Jaramillo came a single short of a cycle, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in to lead the way for the SBVC offense. In the first inning, with SBVC already up 1-0, he came up with runners on first and second, and he lined a pitch over the right field fence to give the Wolverines a 4-0 lead.

Then, in the third, with Andrew Griffin on second with two outs, Jaramillo launched a shot to the fence in the gap of right-center field for a run-scoring triple. In the fifth, he went to deep left field, with a ball that bounced off the netting for a double. He came around to score two batters later on a single from Anthony Yepez. Jaramillo got one more at bat, grounding out in the sixth inning before giving way to a pinch hitter in the eighth.

Meanwhile, the Wolverines' defense was backing up the pitching staff by turning three double plays in the game. And the pitching staff struck out 12 Citrus batters, with starter Diego Castillo striking out six in four innings, before he left due to pitch count. In the seventh, reliever Nicholas Salgado allowed the first two batters he faced to reach, before striking out the next three batters to shut down the Owls' rally.

Yepez finished 2-for-4 with a run scored to go with his RBI, while Griffin scored twice.
