SBVC Gets Second Chance, Will Run at State

The San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team was notified this week that it will be competing at the 2021 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The 3.1-mile race will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 20.

SBVC initially missed out on an automatic bid by one spot with their finish at the Southern California Regionals earlier this month. Diana Bautista had qualified for the race as an individual thanks to her ninth place finish at that race. Now, she will be joined by her teammates.

"Our five young women from the beginning are going to make it all the way to the end of the season," said coach Eric Abrams. "They are really excited for the opportunity."

According to the CCCAA's race preview, "The Fresno area weather forecast for Saturday: partly cloudy skies with early morning temperatures in the mid-40s, a high of 65 and little wind, if any. Fresno’s scenic Woodward Park is not as colorful due to the drought, but lots of recent moisture has the dirt packed down hard. Hence, no dust and course conditions will be perfect for all."
