Pena Sets Pace for Wolverines

Freshman Kimberly Pena continued her strong 2019 season as the San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team continued its preparation for the major races of the season with an appearance at the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Challenge on Sept. 21.

Pena finished 21st in the field of 146 runners from schools from all college levels, finishing fourth among community college runners, with a time of 18 minutes, 31.93 seconds. Her performance was the second fastest time an SBVC runner has posted on the Cal State course, behind an 18:24 posted by Alyssa Benavides.

After Pena, the rest of the squad was getting used to running at the longer distances. Jessica Aguilera clocked in at 21:00.9, with Ximena Martinez crossing the line at 22:09.72. Emily Lopez posted a time of 23:08.33, with Megan Knox finishing at 23:27.34.
