Wolverines Fall Short in Home Conference Opener

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team renewed its rivalry with Mt. San Jacinto on Wednesday - the first time in the newly formed Inland Empire Athletic Conference.

And as the first game got started, it looked like the Wolverines were going to knock off the Eagles for their first victory in the new conference.

But the Eagles tightened up its defense, and got its attack going to beat the Wolverines in three sets - 28-26, 25-17, 25-12.

Libero Jordan Segura got the Wolverines going in the first game, running off five points from the service line, including a couple of aces to give SBVC a wide lead. But MSJC chipped away at the lead, eventually taking the lead at 24-23. The Wolverines survived game point three times, but could not a fourth time to drop the first set.

As the game wore on, the Eagles picked up their attack, putting the Wolverines on their heels.

Kayla Williams and Adriana Wright each had five kills for the Wolverines, while Segura ended the game with five aces and 29 digs.
