Team Effort Lifts Wolverines to Victory

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team jumped out to an early lead, then picked itself up after a lull in the third game to defeat West Los Angeles College in four games Thursday evening.

The Wolverines won 25-23, 25-21, 11-25, 25-21.

SBVC jumped out to an early lead in game one, and held off a late rally by West LA, as both teams struggled with their hitting in the first game. In the second game, Jordan Longo took over to help the Wolverines open up a lead. She served seven straight points, including three aces, to help SBVC pull away for the win.

With a chance to finish off West LA in the third, libero Jordan Segura served five straight points, including two aces, to open the game. But the Wildcats answered with five points of their own and pulled away as the Wolverines struggled to close out the game.

In the fourth set, SBVC was able to again pull out to the lead, thanks in part to three big kills from Savannah Carter and Longo's fifth ace of the game.

Carter led the way with seven kills, while Segura was credited with 23 digs in the victory.

The Wolverines continue their season Friday morning, playing Riverside and Southwestern as part of the SBVC Quad tournament.
