Wolverines Show Fight, Can't Beat MiraCosta

Fresh off their first win of the season, the San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team looked to build on its success Friday night.

Unfortunately, the Wolverines' opponent was MiraCosta, the top team in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and one of the best in the state.

SBVC rallied in the first set, but could not continue the momentum, as they fell to the Spartans 25-18, 25-12, 25-11.

Down late in the first set, the Wolverines ran off six straight points to get back into the game. But the Spartans shut down the rally, and took over from there.

SBVC had troubles against the taller Spartans' squad, as they converted only 13 of their 53 attacks, with 15 errors against the Spartans.

Anyssa Baca led the team with seven kills, while Savannah Carter added four more kills. Libero Melanie Lizama had 13 digs - nine in the first set - to lead the defense.
