After falling behind 2-0 in the first 20 minutes in its previous game, the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team wasn't going to allow a repeat performance Friday night.
The Wolverines pushed the pace early, scored in the 22nd minute then dominated play in the second half to post a 2-0 victory over Citrus College inside SBVC Stadium in front of players from the So Cal Blues Soccer Club.
Jayla Orozco got the scoring started for SBVC. The Wolverines were pressuring in the right side of the Citrus penalty area, when Faith Facio slipped the ball to Orozco. She bent a shot inside the far post to give the Wolverines the lead.
After shots were even at half, the Wolverines picked up the pressure, peppering Citrus goalkeeper Liliana Miramontes with eight shots on goal in the second half. She was able to turn away all but one.
In the 79th minute, Anna Bailey took control of the ball, and was off to the races. She pushed the ball past a defender and chased it down going in one-on-one with Miramontes. She blasted the ball past the goalkeeper to give SBVC the 2-0 lead.
Bella Silva got credit for the clean sheet, only making three saves, but there were anxious moments late in the game. Miramontes finished with nine saves.
