10 Honored with All-IEAC Selections

Ten members of the San Bernardino Valley College women’s soccer team were rewarded for their hard work during the 2022 season with selections to the All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference teams.

SBVC had five players each on the first and second teams, as selected by conference coaches.

A quartet of sophomores were selected to the first team -- Johanna Barraza, Angelina Diaz, Angelique Seckel, and Denae Verdine – along with freshman Maraena Munoz.

  • Barraza started all 20 of the Wolverines’ regular season games, playing an integral role in the center of the SBVC midfield. She finished with one goal and one assist on the season. From her central midfield role,
  • Diaz started all 10 games in conference. She finished the regular season scoring two goals and adding two assists in 2022.
  • An outside defender, Seckel had an assist, and was an option on attack, making runs up the right wing to help spread the SBVC offense.
  • Verdine, who missed time early in the season, picked up the pace in the back half of the season, ending with three goals and six assists in 14 appearances.
  • Munoz appeared in all 20 games – starting 16 – scoring one goal and adding one assist in her role on the left side of the SBVC defense.

The players on the second team included: Madison Coy, Samantha Ramirez, Jovana Soto-Torres, Danira Valenzuela and Haley Weghorst.

  • A central defender, Coy started all 17 games she appeared in – often playing the full 90 minutes in a central stopper role for the SBVC defense.
  • Freshman Ramirez finished the season leading the Wolverines in goals with eight – six during IEAC play. Two of the eight were game-winners.
  • Sophomore Soto-Torres acted as strong central attacker for the Wolverines, finishing the season with four goals and one assist.
  • Valenzuela was second on the team with five goals – two of them game-winners from her position up front.
  • SBVC’s goalkeeper Weghorst logged nearly 1,400 minutes in the regular season, posting six complete game shutouts, while being credited with 104 saves on the season. In conference, she posted a 0.94 goals against average.
