Sandoval Tops List of All-IEAC Selections

For the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team, reaching team goals is always the top priority - something that making its fourth straight appearance in the final eight in the state playoffs will attest to.

So, when it comes to individual postseason awards, it should not be surprising that a good portion of that team is honored, as 14 SBVC players earned mention on the 2019 All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference team.

Leading that pack was sophomore Nayeli Sandoval. The sophomore from Bloomington High School was named the conference's player of the year for her work during the 2019 season. She led the Wolverines with 12 goals on the season - 11 of them coming in the 11 IEAC games she played in. Four of her goals in 2019 were game winners, and she added eight assists.

Joining Sandoval on the first team was another major offensive contributor in 2019, midfielder Caitlyn Sauceda. The conference's female athlete of the month in September, Sauceda finished the season with 10 goals and seven assists while being asked to play a role as a holding midfielder. She finished the season strong, scoring three goals and adding an assist in the Wolverines' three playoff games.

Also earning first team honors was the defensive crew that only allowed three goals in IEAC play, midfielder Livia Cervantes and defenders Ferryn Koss, April Regalado and Reyna VanDamme.

Leading the second team honors was forward Marcela Gallo, who finished the season tied with Sauceda for second most goals with 10. Joining her were consistent contributors Eliana Martinez (nine goals), Anahi Diaz (five goals), Jacqueline Garcia and Aaliyah Rubio.

Honorable mention selections were forward Allyson Awunganyi and goalkeepers Kerstin Lecon and Taylor Milner.
