SBVC Honors Its Sophomores With Win

The San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team finished off the home portion of its schedule Tuesday afternoon, as they defeated Miramar 3-0.

Before Tuesday's game, the Wolverines honored their sophomores in their final regular season home game. But it was a pair of freshmen who got SBVC on the board in the first half.

Caitlyn Sauceda took the ball to the end line on the right side, and sent a pass to the 6-yard box where Jacqueline Garcia was waiting to slam the ball into the net for a 1-0 halftime lead.

But the second half belonged to the sophomores for goal scoring. Kayla Storm ran in and put her head on a ball sent to the back post by Maria Carino to double the lead. Then Karen Jacobs ran down a long through pass from Mariah Gonzalez and tucked a shot past Maria Andreyev for the final goal.

The Wolverines fired 24 shots toward the goal, but only 10 ended up on goal. Andreyev made two great stops to keep the game close for the Jets, who only got three shots on goal in Tuesday's game. Sophomore Vanessa Casillas made two saves for the win, with Kerstin Lecon coming on in relief and making a save for the Wolverines.
