SBVC Women Ready to Answer Call

SBVC Women Ready to Answer Call

For many, the Covid-19 pandemic has been a time of change. There are still many questions we are looking for answers for.

Those questions were left unanswered for the teams and athletes at many schools over the lost 2020-21 school year, as many schools were forced to opt out of offering athletics due to pandemic restrictions.

For the San Bernardino Valley College women’s basketball team, the time has come to seek out those answers, as they prepare to take the court for the 2021-22 season, starting with the Valley Invitational Tournament, being held Nov. 5-7 at SBVC.

The Wolverines put together a solid campaign in 2019-20, finishing 14-12, including a 9-4 record in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play. Four players from that team have returned, giving coach Christina Torres a solid leadership core to build around with a squad that features nine new players.

“We are so excited to be back on the court and competing,” Torres said. “We have brought in a group of players who are committed to put in the work toward challenging for a conference title.”

After the Valley Classic, the Wolverines will have three more home games in a busy November, before opening IEAC play at home against Chaffey on Dec. 18. SBVC will close out the season with a five-game home stand in February.

Coach Torres is always looking to build the program with the best players from the Inland Empire region, and begins recruiting as early as December.
