Late Run Has SBVC Looking to Future

The results from an opening weekend of the 2021-22 basketball season may not tell the whole story on how a team will perform going forward.

And even though the San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team lost in the finale of the Valley Invitational on Sunday evening, there were enough signs in the second half to see that the Wolverines may be headed on the right track.

SBVC fell to West Los Angeles College 70-45 in the game, but the final score wasn't the complete story for the Wolverines. It was the way the team responded in the second half after only scoring 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Wolverines trailed 39-10 at the half, and came out with a new purpose in the third. They were able to cut down on turnovers and get their offense going in the third, scoring 14 points and increasing their compete level. In the fourth, SBVC hit on 61.5 percent of its shots, outscoring West LA 21-14 to close out the game strong.

Priscilla Najera led the Wolverines with 11 points, while Jourdan Walker had 10 rebounds coming off the bench. Sophomore Candee Evans had eight points and seven rebounds as well.
