Wolverines End on Short End of Slugfest

The San Bernardino Valley College softball team trailed 6-1 after an inning, then 12-4 after two against Mt. San Jacinto on Friday.

But the Wolverines battled back against the Eagles, making the score 13-10 after four. But the Eagles' offense exploded for six runs in the sixth to pull away to beat the Wolverines 21-11 in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference game at Chavez Park in Colton.

The two teams combined to pound out 35 hits in the game, with the Eagles holding a 20-15 advantage. But it was on defense that the Eagles ended up making the difference, as SBVC was charged with six errors to only one for Mt. San Jacinto.

SBVC's attack was led by Anyia Lane and Angelica Melendrez, who had three hits apiece. Lane also cleared the bases with a three-base error off the glove of the MSJC centerfielder, and scored four runs. Melendrez had two RBI and scored twice. Tina Orrick was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Alyssa Mays was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
