SBVC Men Headed Back to State Championships

For years, the goals for the San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team have been simple: Win conference, advance to the State Championships as a team.

And again in 2021, it was mission accomplished.

The Wolverines finished 11th as a team at the Southern California Championships on Friday at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley to qualify for the final race of the season at Woodward Park in Fresno on Nov. 20.

"Our guys ran their best race of the season," said Head Coach Jim Ratigan. "They stuck to the plan of keeping a tight gab between our one through four runners. I'm very proud of their commitment to executing the race plan."

Juan Hernandez was the first of the top four to cross the line, stopping the clock on the four mile course at 21 minutes, 0.82 seconds, good for 35th overall. Not far behind him were teammates Oscar Gaspar Chavez (42nd, 21:11.9) and Logan Hernandez (46th, 21:16.79). Adam Lunt was the fourth of the group, finishing 61st with a time of 21:48.35.
