Three Wolverines Taking Next Step

Three Wolverines Taking Next Step

Three members of the San Bernardino Valley College men’s soccer team have made their decisions on where to continue their playing careers.

Cristian Uruttia, a converted midfielder who played a key role on the SBVC defense in 2019, has committed to play next season with Cal Poly Pomona. The Moreno Valley Valley View High School graduate was an all-Inland Empire Athletic Conference selection in 2019 as a defender. But he also contributed offensively, scoring six goals (two were game-winners) and adding four assists. In 34 games as a Wolverine, he scored eight goals and had seven assists.

Jason Hernandez, who also earned All-IEAC honors on defense, has committed with Sonoma State. Hernandez stepped into his role as right defender in 2019, helping steady the Wolverines’ defense. The Bloomington High school grad was also a target on set plays, scoring four goals (two game-winners) and adding three assists in 16 games in 2019.

Central midfielder Misael Castaneda has committed to continue his playing career at the University of La Verne. A Moreno Valley High School graduate, Castaneda wore the captain’s arm band in 2019, and played a key holding role in the midfield, winning balls in the air and directing traffic through the middle. He had one goal and one assist in 2019. He was a second-team All-IEAC selection in 2019.
