The San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team came into the 2019 season knowing it would need to clamp down on teams to be successful.

The Wolverines did that - allowing only 25 goals in 21 games during the season, only six of those coming in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.

So, when it came to making decisions about who would be on the All-IEAC team, it made sense that it would be highlighted by the defense. Three players from the Wolverines' back line were named to the first team by coaches in postseason voting.

Center back Hector Alba, right back Jason Hernandez, and left back Cristian Uruttia - a converted midfielder - were all chosen for the first team for their work. All three of the players also chipped in on the offensive side of things as well. Uruttia, a key player on free kicks, had six goals and four assists on the season. Hernandez, often a target on corner kicks and set plays, had four goals and three assists. And Alba pitched in with four goals of his own for the Wolverines.

SBVC's second team selections also highlighted the defense. Sophomore Misael Castaneda was an imposing figure in the middle of the field, often playing a holding midfielder and second central defender. Goalkeeper Luis Hernandez played in 10 games, allowing only seven goals and getting credit for two shutouts. And midfielder Jose Solis was selected after posting five goals and five assists for the Wolverines.

Honorable mention selections were Jorge Baranda, Cesar Becerra and Kevin Sutton.
