Second Half Outburst Lifts Wolverines

The San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team scored four goals in the second half -- three of them unassisted -- as the team continued its undefeated run in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play with a 4-0 win over San Diego Mesa College on Friday.

Ramon Nunez opened the scoring in the 49th minute. After the Wolverines were awarded a penalty kick, Nunez's strike was stopped by diving goaltender Ty Aumann. But Nunez followed his shot, and put the rebound behind a prone Aumann, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

In the 64th minute, it was Juan Luna's turn to convert on a free kick. Luna hit the free kick from about 35 yards out into the upper corner of the net, giving SBVC a 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile, the defense was holding off the Olympians, as the game was moved inside SBVC Stadium due to a scheduling conflict. SBVC held Mesa to only six shots on goal, each of which was handled by goaltender Christopher Gomez.

The game got testy in the final 10 minutes, with both sides pushing and shoving, leading to four yellow cards and a red card being shown to the two sides.

The Wolverines added to the lead, scoring twice in the final five minutes. Eiglio Ibarra finished a pass from Cristian Uruttia to make it 3-0, then Uruttia converted on another free kick less than two minutes later, as he blasted one into the back of the net from about 30 yards.
