After breaking open a tight, back-and-forth first half, the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team opened the second half with a 17-4 run in the opening five minutes to turn a 10-point halftime lead into a 23-point lead as the Wolverines held on to beat Santa Monica College 93-80 Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines, who led by as many as 24, cooled off later in the half as the Corsairs pushed to get back into the game. But Santa Monica could get no closer than eight, as SBVC won its sixth in a row.

Four of the five starters for San Bernardino Valley finished the game in double figures, with Damani Washington leading the way with 25 points, eight assists and five steals. K'Lon Williams finished with 21, while Roman Silva had 19 and Eric Hancik had 15. The Wolverines made 59.3 percent of their shots on the afternoon, while the defense was clamping down on Santa Monica, holding the Corsairs to only 44.4 percent shooting from the field, and only 25 percent from three-point range.

Daisone Hughes led the Corsairs with 17 points, with Eli Degrate the only other player in double figures, with 10.
