After a weekend off from action, the San Bernardino Valley College football team returned to action Oct. 9, defeating Glendale College 38-21 in the American Conference Pacific League opener for the two teams.
SBVC built a 14-0 lead in the first half, as Trenton Dunn powered in from 2 yards out and Jason Harris Jr. scored his first of two touchdowns on the night - a 12-yard pass play from Kane Richardson. But Glendale got back within a touchdown before the end of the half, making the score 14-7 at the break.
The Vaqueros tied the game on their second possession of the second half, taking advantage of a short field. But the Wolverines offense took over from there. They followed up the Glendale score with a six-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by a 28-yard pass play from Kane Richardson to Landon Neely to make it 21-14.
On their next drive, SBVC took a more methodical approach. They ran 12 plays, marching 68 yards before settling for a 33-yard field goal from Jonathan Lupercio to widen their lead to 24-14.
Getting the ball back to start the fourth quarter, the Wolverines again quickly made their way up the field. Again, they only needed six plays, this time for 62 yards with Richardson connecting with Neely again for a 31-yard score to make it 31-14.
After Glendale got back within 10, the Wolverines put the final touches on the win. Richardson threw a quick screen to Harris on the left side, and he busted through the Vaquero defense going 77 yards for his second score of the game.
Richardson completed 15 of 22 passes on the night, accounting for 273 yards and four scores, as the Wolverines racked up 485 yards of total offense. Jonathan Coar carried the ball 22 times for 132 yards to pace the ground game.
