The San Bernardino Valley College baseball team again had troubles getting runners home at key times Tuesday afternoon, and it resulted in a 6-5 loss to Citrus.

But as much as the offense couldn't convert on its chances, it was a simple dropped ball that ended up leading the winning run for the Owls. In the sixth, with the game tied at 5, Alejandro Loera led off getting hit by a Dominic Tejada pitch. With Gerardo Zurita at the plate, Tejada made a quick move to first that appeared to pick off Loera. But as the umpire started to call Loera out, the ball popped out of Mason Smith's glove. Zurita then bunted Loera to second, and he went to third on a groundout to Ethan Anderegg by Michael Devis. Leadoff hitter Thomas Chavez singled home Loera, giving the Owls the lead for the final time.

Citrus pitcher Enrique Zaldivar shut the door from there. In the eighth inning, he gave up back-to-back singles to Samuel Pulido and Edward Aldama - but each were erased when trying to get a jump on Zaldivar, they were picked off. Zaldivar ended up striking out six batters in four innings of work - half of the strikeout total the Wolverines posted in the game.

Pulido led the SBVC offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Jaden Burns was 2-for-2 - both doubles - and two runs scored. But in the end, there wasn't enough key hits, as the Wolverines left 10 runners on base.
