Runners Post Personal Bests at Conference Championships

Going into the Inland Empire Athletic Conference Championships, the San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team knew it would face an uphill climb to defend its conference championship.

With a team of only five runners, with only one sophomore, they knew it would be a challenge to hold off Chaffey College for the top spot.

Despite not being able to overtake the Panthers as team, each member of the SBVC squad posted personal best times at the event, hosted by Norco College.

"To go into conference and have every athlete run a personal best says a little something," said coach Eric Abrams. I credit my coaching staff for all their hard work and commitment, out running with the team. They are the ones pushing them to be their best. Ultimately, from where we started this season to where we are now, I am pleased."

Freshman Yoselin Canseco was the first member of the squad across the line, finishing tenth with a time of 22 minutes, 20.2 seconds on the 5 kilometer course. Sophomore Sashi Torres was the second Wolverine to stop the clock, finishing 11th at 23:00.9.

Nataly Gutierrez and Elizabeth Guzman finished 18th and 19th, respectively, with Gutierrez crossing at 27:19.6, and Guzman at 27:26.5.

The Wolverines now prepare for the Southern California Regional in Bakersfield.
