Wolverine Runners Score Fourth Place at SoCal Preview

The San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team posted a fourth-place finish at the Southern California Preview meet in Cerritos last Friday.

It is the highest finish at a large invitational meet of its type in school history for the women's cross country team.

"I couldn't be more pround of my incredible student-athletes," coach Eric Abrams said. "Still, we cannot be complacent. It is very early in the season and there is a lot of work to do."

Freshman Alissa Johnson led the way for SBVC, finishing fifth in a time of 18 minutes, 56 seconds. Returning All-American Alyssa Benavides finished the 5K course in 14th, with at ime of 19:20. Darilyn Hernandez set a personal best time at 20:40 for 43rd. Brandy Ayala finished 51st at 21:01 and freshman Jayda Martinez in 53rd at 21:06.

Jessica Aguilera finished at 21:19, with Lilly Armendariz clocking in at 21:31 and Roxana Lopez right behind at 21:35.

The Wolverines will prepare for the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Preview meet Saturday at Cal State San Bernardino.
