Wolverines Have Hill to Climb after So Cal Preview

The San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team placed 11th overall at the Southern California Championships preview meet in Santa Clarita on Sept. 15.

Alyssa Benevidas was the top finisher for the Wolverines, completing the course in 19 minutes, 35 seconds, good for eighth in the field. It was her best time of the year.

However, the Wolverines still have some work to do, as only two other runners finished in the top 100, placing SBVC just inside the cut to qualify for the state championships. But many teams skipped the meet or ran imcomplete teams, meaning the Wolverines will have their work cut out for them in to prepare for the actual Southern California Championships on Nov. 3.

Lillian Armendariz, Kiani Fernandes, Darilyn Hernandez and Yesenia Loreto completed the top five finishers for the Wolverines at the meet.

The Wolverines will be out on the course again Sept. 23 at the Cal State San Bernardino meet.
