Wolverines Fight Hard, Can't Ground Comets

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team won a marathon second set, but despite rallying in each set, they could not stop the visiting Palomar Comets on Wednesday night at home.

The Wolverines won the second set 30-28 after jumping out to an early lead, then falling behind in the set. They held off four game points, then won on its first chance to close out the game.

But in each of the other sets, the Wolverines were forced to play from behind early. They rallied in each set, but ran out of time in each one.

Savanna Aguilar led the offense with 18 kills, while Alyssa Baca added 11 more. Defensively, Melanie Lizama had 33 digs on the night, including 12 in the second set.

The Wolverines play at College of the Desert on Friday, before closing out Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play at home next week, playing Mt. San Jacinto on Tuesday and Miramar on Friday. Both games begin at 5 p.m.
