Tired Wolverines Drop Pair of Games as Part of Quad Event

Playing their third and fourth matches in three days, the San Bernardino Valley College women’s volleyball team lost twice in games against Cerro Coso College and Orange Coast College as part of the SBVC Quad event Friday morning.

The Wolverines (2-5), came out strong in the first game against Cerro Coso, winning the first set 25-20, and controlling play for most of the second set. But serving for a chance to win the second set, Valley was unable to finish the job, as Cerro Coso won the last three points to take the set 26-24.

San Bernardino Valley was unable to keep up from there, as the Coyotes’ offense picked up the pace, finishing out the last two sets 25-14, 25-18.

Verenice Rivera (Beaumont) led the Wolverines attack in the match against Cerro Coso, accounting for a team-high 11 kills – nine of which came in the first two games. Savanna Aguilar (Beaumont) had eight kills and Maggie Raygoza provided 18 digs on defense.

In the second game of the day, the Wolverines ran into a talented Orange Coast College team, which swept the match 25-11, 25-6, 25-8.

The Pirates opened the deciding third game with a 10-0 run and put away the tired Wolverine squad.

Rochelle Dizon (Redlands East Valley) and Rivera led the Wolverines with three kills apiece, as San Bernardino Valley was only able to muster nine in the three sets.

The Wolverines will be back on the court next Wednesday and Thursday, with back-to-back road matches at Chaffey and at Citrus before returning home Sept. 20 to take on College of the Canyons.
