The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team knew it would have its work cut out for it as it faced the state's 13th-ranked team, MiraCosta, on Wednesday.
And MiraCosta lived up to the promise of one of the top teams in the state, as the Spartans swept the Wolverines 25-10, 25-8, 25-11 in the SBVC Auxilary Gym.
The Wolverines' offense could not string together many runs throughout the three sets. San Bernardino Valley had small leads early in each set, but was not able to stop the strong offense coming from the other side of the net. The Wolverines could not get its offense in gear, as well, as they only made 48 kill attempts in the match, converting only nine.
Savanna Aguilar led the way in the kill category for the Wolverines, converting four of her 12 attempts. Setter Destiny Alvarez also had a good showing in the match, getting two kills in seven attempts, and getting a block and the Wolverines' only ace in the game.
The Wolverines have a week off before hosting Palomar at 5 p.m. next Wednesday.
