SBVC Women’s Volleyball knocks out Coyotes, 3-0

SBVC (6-13; 3-4) put together a solid effort as they avenged an earlier season defeat, sweeping the Ridgecrest Cerro Coso Coyotes (2-20; 1-6), 25-15, 26-24 and 25-10.

In the first set, SBVC opened up an early lead with a 7-2 advantage, then really throttled up the offense as they took a commanding 17-6 lead, eventually winning the set 25-15.

The Coyotes would make it a game as each team played a back-and-forth second set. Cerro Coso came out strong taking an early 12-7 lead, forcing SBVC to take an early timeout. Midway through the game SBVC started to climb back into the game tying the game 14-14. Cerro Coso looked as though they were getting ready for a big push late, but SBVC regained their momentum and secured set two.

SBVC started the third set strong, putting the pressure on the Coyotes by taking an early lead, the home side was turning a corner and getting things dialed in as a team, communicating strongly with one another. SBVC had their longest runs of the match, with runs of 10 straight points and several four straight, as a reward for their outstanding performance SBVC rolled to a 25-10 set victory, adding an exclamation point to a fantastic victory.

Freshman setter Nayeli Hernandez (San Bernardino Aquinas) led the team with 9 assists and had 6 digs and freshman libero Valerie Navarrete (Fontana A.B. Miller) led the team with 11 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Daeja Lewis (Redlands East Valley) had 4 kills and 2 service aces and a block assist and freshman outside hitter Roslynn Hamilton (Moreno Valley Vista del Lago) led the team with 2 solo blocks and 8 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Gilbert (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) led the team with 4 service aces, 10 kills and 2 solo blocks and freshman middle blocker Ariana Cole (Fontana Azariel Blanchard Miller) had 8 kills and 4 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Yamiq Myles (Moreno Valley Vista del Lago) led the team with 11 kills, and 2 block assists on the evening.
