SBVC Women's Track & Field finally made their way home as they wrapped up the 2016 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships at SBVC, claiming individual titles in the 800 meters, 3000 meter steeplechase and the 4x400 meter relay, the team finished in 5th place.
Freshman distance runner Alyssa Hebb (Redlands East Valley) broke the women's steeplechase record again, securing an individual Conference title. She crossed the finish after the grueling 3000 meter race with a time of 12:07.77, dropping 4.23 seconds off of her previous best which was good enough for 1st place and 13.18 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent. Distance coach Jim Ratigan commented, "This time ranks Hebb 4th in So Cal and 7th in the state" in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase.
Hebb also added a 3rd place finish in the 5000 meter run, with a time of 20:20.08, contributing 6 points to the SBVC total.
SBVC finished in 1st place, grabbing an individual Conference title in the 4x400 meter relay as the team put up a time of 4:05.96, dropping 6.27 seconds off of their previous effort. Sophomore sprints runner Aisha Johnwell (Etiwanda H.S.) opened things up, then handed off to freshman sprints runner Savanna Perez (Rialto W.A. Carter), who gave it to sophomore jumper Briana McField (Rialto W.A. Carter) and then sophomore relay runner Cara Littlefield (Grand Terrace H.S.) was handed the anchor leg.
Perez was spectacular in the 800 meter run finishing in 1st place with a time of 2:24.81 and 1.4 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent, grabbing an individual Conference title.
Sophomore distance runner Jennifer Granados (Jurupa Valley Patriot) grabbed 3 points for finishing 6th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:44.09, which was 6.44 seconds faster than her nearest opponent. She also collected 3 points in the 800 meter run, finishing 6th with a time of 2:40.52.
McField added 4 points to the SBVC total, finishing 5th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.75, which was 1.72 seconds faster than her nearest opponent.
The 400 meter dash was loaded with SBVC talent, as Perez, Johnwell, Littlefield and freshman hurdler Alicia Sandoval-Paris (San Bernardino Cajon) all finished in the top seven. Perez grabbed a second place finish with a time of 58.79 contributing 8 points, Johnwell finished 3rd with a time of 59.54 adding 6 points, Littlefield crossed the line in 4th place with a time of 1:02.35, good enough for 5 points, and Sandoval-Paris added two more points to SBVC's total with a seventh place finish with a time of 1:08.57.
Littlefield, McField and Sandoval-Paris all participated in the 400 meter hurdles as well, with Littlefield grabbing the top spot for SBVC, a 3rd place finish, adding 6 points, with a time of 1:10.22. McField finished in 5th place with a time of 1:13.78, putting up 4 points and Sandoval-Paris grabbed a 6th place finish with a time of 1:14.48, contributing 3 points.
The 200 meter dash featured Johnwell, who collected a 3rd place finish with a time of 23.17, good enough for 6 points.
In the long jump, Littlefield reached 4.57 meters, finishing in 4th place and grabbing 5 points and McField leapt 4.44 meters, collecting a 7th place finish and adding 2 more points for SBVC.
The javelin throw featured freshman thrower Mariah Gonzalez (San Jacinto H.S.) who finished second with a distance of 27.08 meters collecting 8 points and Littlefield had a 6th place finish, grabbing 3 points, with a distance of 23.93 meters.
