SBVC Women’s Track & Field: Hebb breaks 3k Steeplechase record at Redlands Invitational

SBVC Women's Track & Field hit the road again for their fifth event of the 2016 season as they sent eight student athletes to the University of Redlands for the Redlands Invitational. SBVC participated in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1500 meter run, 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 3000 meter steeplechase, 4x400 meter relay and the javelin throw.

Freshman distance runner Alyssa Hebb (Redlands East Valley) broke the women's steeplechase record, crossing the finish after the grueling 3000 meter race with a time of 12:34.67, which was good enough for 3rd place and 6.12 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent.

SBVC finished in 2nd place in the 4x400 meter relay as the team put up a time of 4:13.89, dropping 6.16 seconds off of their previous effort. Freshman sprints runner Savanna Perez (Rialto W.A. Carter) opened things up, then handed off to sophomore sprints runner Aisha Johnwell (Etiwanda H.S.), who gave it to sophomore relay runner Cara Littlefield (Grand Terrace H.S.) and then freshman relay runner Mariah Gonzalez (San Jacinto H.S.) was handed the anchor leg.

Littlefield led the way for SBVC with a 3rd place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.07, dropping 2.71 seconds off of her previous best and Sandoval-Paris  grabbed a 6th place finish in the same event with a time of 1:18.31. Sophomore hurdler Briana McField (Rialto W.A. Carter) ran in the 100 meter hurdles, collecting an 8th place finish with a time of 17.21, dropping 0.98 seconds off of her previous best.

Perez collected a 4th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.73 and Hebb ran in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:43.79, good enough for 10th place. Both Littlefield and Gonzalez participated in the javelin throw with a distance of 26.19 meters (5th place) and 23.51 meters (6th place) respectively.
