The San Bernardino Valley College women’s soccer team continued its successful run on the field in the 2018 season, advancing to the state final four.

But the team’s success was not limited to its play on the field.

Six members of the 2018 team will be moving on to play college soccer at the four-year level thanks to their work on the field and in the classroom.

Leading the way of the sophomores moving on is Karen Jacobs. The SBVC Female Athlete of the Year was the 2018 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference player of the year, having led the Wolverines with 18 goals and 13 assists for the season. The Redlands High graduate will be headed to Louisiana State University-Alexandria in the fall.

Joining Jacobs at LSU-A this fall will be team co-captain Stephanie Doran. The tenacious midfielder was a force in the middle for SBVC. The Grand Terrace High graduate battled through several nagging injuries throughout the season, posting two goals and five assists. She was a second-team All-PCAC selection.

Also headed to LSU-A will be Morgan Simmang. A forward out of Hemet’s Taquitz High School, Simmang used her speed and strength to take control of the ball and hold off defenders. She had five goals and three assists in her role as the first sub off the bench, injecting her speed into the Wolverines’ lineup.

Midfielder Alexis Caceres will take her tenacity and ball skills with her as she will transfer to St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington. Caceres started 18 games on the season, scoring two goals and adding two assists, as she patrolled the midfield, tasked with turning the ball back to the offense.

Two members of SBVC’s defensive core – which only allowed 12 goals on the season – will also be moving on. Defender Shantee Martin, a graduate of Grand Terrace High School, started 22 of the 23 games she appeared in on the 2018 season in her role as a central defender. She will be headed to Kansas Wesleyan University.

The other central defender for the Wolverines was Kayla Storm, a graduate of Eastvale Roosevelt High School. Storm’s booming free kicks set up the Wolverines in the offensive half of the field, with her ending the season with a goal and two assists. She will be attending Eastern Oregon University.
