The San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team had its run to a state championship come to an end Friday evening as undefeated Lake Tahoe scored two second half goals to knock off the Wolverines 2-0 in the semifinals of the CCCAA Championships.

SBVC had troubles generating offense against Lake Tahoe, as the Wolverines' defense held its formation to keep the Coyotes at bay in the first 45 minutes. Both teams were only able to generate two shots in the first half, but Lake Tahoe had the territorial and possession advantage, as the Coyotes earned four corner kicks to only one for the Wolverines.

The Coyotes finally broke through the SBVC defense in the second half. In the 77th minute, Angelica Hurtado got a back heel pass from Annie Brejc and she fired it past Vanessa Casillas for a 1-0 lead. Meanwhile, Lake Tahoe kept firing at the Wolverines' goal, as they were credited with nine shots in the second half.

Casillas kept the Wolverines in the game, but it was a third-chance rebound that clinched the win in the closing seconds. Samantha Frates converted the final try for the final score.

Lake Tahoe will play Santiago Canyon - the only other team to beat the Wolverines this season - in the championship game Sunday at 2 p.m.
