Wolverines' Defense Squeezes Citrus in Victory

Marcella Gallo headed home a Caitlyn Sauceda cross in the 43rd minute and Karen Jacobs added an insurance goal in the final two minutes as the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team beat Citrus College 2-0 Saturday night inside SBVC Stadium.

The Wolverines' defense clamped down on the Owls, who came into the game with one loss, allowing only four strikes toward goal, with goaltender Vanessa Casillas registering only two saves.

On offense, the Wolverines tested the Owls' defense and goaltender Olivia Handy throughout the game. Handy made 11 saves, keeping the Owls in the game until the final minutes. The Wolverines held off the Owls, and forced a turnover. Jennifer Buenrostro put the ball up the middle to Jacobs, who worked around the defense and slotted a shot past Handy to put the game out of reach.

The Wolverines will return to Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play Tuesday with a game at Grossmont, before returning home against San Diego Mesa at 3 p.m .Friday.
