Karen Jacobs and Drew Cason scored goals as the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team was victorious in its first home game of the regular season, beating College of the Canyons 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Wolverines came out quickly Tuesday, but settled in as the Cougars settled the game down. But late in the first half, SBVC got its offense on track. In the 42nd minute, Stephanie Doran and Karen Jacobs pressured the Canyons defense, with the ball falling to Jacobs' feet. She fired quickly into the far post for a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Wolverines' depth took over, wearing down the Cougars. In the 59th minute, Fabiola Sanchez sent a corner kick into the area, where Cason headed the ball past the outstretched hand of Canyons' goalkeeper Ana Spross. The Wolverines had one more chance in the second half, but Spross made two sprawling saves and Maria Carino hit the right post in a flurry of shots over a 10-second period.

San Bernardino Valley goaltenders Vanessa Casillas and Kerstin Lecon combined for the shutout. Casillas recorded four saves, including knocking a long shot over the crossbar in second half. Lecon had two saves in 13 minutes of relief. Spross had six saves for Canyons.

SBVC will open Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play at 3 p.m. Friday against Palomar at home.
