Wolverines Top PCAC All-Conference Awards

The San Bernardino Valley College women’s soccer team was rewarded with postseason awards by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference after winning the conference’s championship for the second year in a row - and sixth conference championship overall.

Sophomore Jordan Steele (Tahquitz) was named the conference’s Player of the Year. The defender/midfielder was used in a transition midfielder role this season, scoring just one goal and adding one assist during conference division play – the only goal being a game-winner. Overall for the season, she six goals  -- tied for second on the team -- and two assists.

Jordyn DeJongh (Citrus Valley) was awarded the PCAC Defender of the Year. A sophomore, DeJongh was one of the team captains and served mostly in a sweeper type role in the back for the Wolverines. Her big left-footed services on free kicks led to goals. She even scored twice on the season.

Goalkeeper Natalie Carreon (Cajon) was awarded the Goalkeeper of the Year award. The sophomore started most of the Wolverines’ games in conference, and only allowed two goals the entire season – a goals against average of 0.18. She posted 47 saves on the season, as the Wolverines defense allowed only seven goals the entire season.

Those three were joined on the PCAC First team by three teammates. Defender Perri Beck (Moreno Valley) patrolled the right side of the Wolverines’ defense, often starting offensive attacks down the wing. She finished the season with a goal and two assists.

Also on the first team was the team’s leading scorer, forward Karen Jacobs (Redlands). Jacobs, who was a PCAC Women’s Athlete of the Week during the season, had seven goals and five assists – tops in both categories on the team.

Rounding out the first team is Drew Cason (Grand Terrace). The freshman midfielder had three goals and three assists from a mostly attacking midfield spot in the Wolverines’ formation.

Five players earned honorable mention selections: Freshman midfielder Stephanie Doran (Grand Terrace); Freshman defender AnnaMarie Fazzino (Grand Terrace); Sophomore defender Evelyn Findlay (Grand Terrace); Sophomore midfielder Yasmin Montelongo (Valley View); and freshman defender Kayla Storm (Roosevelt).
