Wolverines Shine Under the Lights of SBVC Stadium

Karen Jacobs converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute, and the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team made the goal stand up as it defeated East Los Angeles College 1-0 Friday night in SBVC Stadium.

Jacobs had been sent in on a breakaway when she was pulled down by goaltender Julia Rivera in the penalty area. Jacobs got her revenge, but burying her shot into the back of the net to give the Wolverines the early lead.

The Wolverines' offense looked poised to add to the score, setting loose on several other chances in the first half, firing 10 shots at the Huskies' goal in the half -- four of which Rivera stopped. Meanwhile the defense was keeping East LA on its heels, allowing no shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

The second half turned into a more back-and-forth affair, with San Bernardino still only allowing little room for the Huskies. But one shot did make in on goal, and required goaltender Natalie Carreon to reach up and push the shot off the crossbar and out of play.
