Wolverines Speed Past Roadrunners

Seven different players scored as the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team continued its unbeaten run through the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with a dominating 7-0 victory at home Tuesday.

Claudia Alfaro got the Wolverines (16-1-1 overall, 7-0 in conference) started in the eighth minute, as she booted home a long cross from Stephanie Doran for the 1-0 lead.

The game settled down from there, with San Bernardino controlling much of the possession. But the rest of the game, the goals came in small bunches.

In the 31st minute, Traci Martinez collected a misplayed clearing header and slotted it home for a 2-0 lead. And four minutes later, Morgan Simmang was on the end of a long pass from Perri Beck to make it 3-0 at the half.

The second half was more of the same, as the Wolverines peppered the Desert (4-14, 0-7) goal. Samantha Cordova tapped home Yasmin Montelongo's corner kick at the near post in the 62nd minute, with Jennifer Buenrostro scoring an unassited goal just three minutes later. San Bernardino Valley scored twice more near the end of the game, as Jada Calderon and Teagan Taylor added their names to the scoresheet.

Goaltender Ann-Marie O'Connell made one save in the victory, as Desert had no shot attempts in the second half. Desert starter Maranda Palmer made four saves, with Maira Fuentes making one save in relief.

San Bernardino Valley travels Friday to take on Miramar at 1 p.m., before returning home at 1 p.m. next Tuesday for its final regular season home game of the season, as they will take on MiraCosta.
