In the end, it was the depth of the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team that made the difference Friday afternoon at SBVC.
The Wolverines wore down and tired out the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles, scoring three times in the second half to pick up a 4-0 victory in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action.
San Bernardino Valley (15-1-1, 6-0 in PCAC North Division play) broke through in the 37th minute. Monica Garcia had the ball on the left side of the field and she found Karen Jacobs in the middle. Jacobs slotted a shot home for her sixth goal of the season. But that was it for the first half, as both sides worked the ball in the midfield with little success. San Bernardino Valley, however, was able to fire eight shots at the Mt. San Jacinto goal, forcing April Sawyer to make four saves. Meanwhile, the Eagles (7-8-1, 3-2-1) were only get one shot away in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half started with much of the same, until the 55th minute. Morgan Simmang go the ball on the left side and took on three defenders, moving to the middle. When she hit the 18-yard box, she fired a screamer past Sawyer for a 2-0 Wolverine lead.
The Wolverines got two more goals late, thanks to a couple of good bounces. Gloria Hinson deflected a centering pass from Jacobs into the goal off her thigh. Then in the final minutes, Angelica Benetiz brought a bouncing ball down near the penalty spot and pushed it into the back of the net.
